Copse - Working over the winter

What better time than Spring to appreciate the impact of all our hard work we undertook during the winter!

Just last year, we were still tackling an overwhelming amount of cutting back and pruning unwanted holly and cherry laurel, as well as clearing away years of decayed branches and leaves.

In particular, Peter has been working quietly away clearing out a large amount of ground ivy and scrub as well as cutting up logs for the log piles and without him, we would be very far behind our plan.

As a result of several storms over the winter, we also had to deal with fallen trees blocking paths and creating hazards, and we’re so thankful to Alan for cutting them down with his chainsaw and for the hard work the Friends have done to clear away all the wood and shrubbery.

On top of that, we removed even more rubbish that had been hidden for years in the undergrowth and hopefully that means we just have a few areas to dig out.

The photos show just how much progress we have made, and it will be interesting to see what the impact is especially in the spring.

We would also like to thank the support of teams from the Conservation Volunteers and Vodaphone for their help
