Water Quality Monitoring in the Copse

Historical records show there was a pond in the Copse which was gradually filled in, and over time water channels have been diverted and as houses were being built and water supply and drains were being provided including drains in roads, various water channels were created.

There are three separate water channels that make their way into the Copse and as part of the work to improve the standard of water quality and to understand any pollutants that may be entering the water system and fundamentally making their way down to the River Thames (Yeading Brook), we undertake water monitoring every month on three locations in the Copse which relate directly to water coming from three separate locations namely:

  • Parkside Way.

  • Victor Road.

  • Yeading Brook.

Water runoff from roads is particularly problematic, and our results indicate that this is the main cause of pollution entering the river system in the Copse and we are monitoring for the following chemical pollutants:

Ammonia.

Nitrate.

Nitrite.

Phosphate.

From this viewpoint, we can see two of the water channels directly ahead, the other being behind us which you can see from the park.
